Every working week we are somewhere in Trinity, often within a short walk of Trinity Crescent and Newhaven Harbour. The building stock here has its own character, and the ground beneath it has its own habits. Knowing both is the difference between a fix that lasts and a repair you have to revisit.

Trinity's seaside villas were built on a mix of stiff boulder clay and softer marine deposits towards the shore. Buildings nearer the harbour edge are most exposed to ground-moisture changes from the Forth.

A CCTV survey has flagged root ingress, a fracture or a partial collapse, and the pipe runs under a finished floor or a stone-paved garden. Excavation means lifting flagstones, cutting through screed, disposing of contaminated spoil, then reinstating everything. Costs run away quickly, and the property is out of action for days.

Reline it. A resin-soaked liner is inverted into the host pipe, cured in place under pressure, and trimmed at each end. The pipe is back in service the same day, with a smooth bore and no joints for roots to find.
